Recent music has proved to not keep the attention of the listener as much as it had once previously. Now a days while driving in the car a person flips through the radio before a song even ends. A theory on why this is occuring is that music has become too monotone. In the days of rock and roll and artisits like Phish, and Buckethead their music constantly changed beat. It would go from a high tempo to low and then once again back to high throughout the song.

Techniques such as constantly changing tempo that jam bands use have helped them to create songs upwards of 20 minutes which fans listen all the way through. There are many music festivals where such bands can be found, such as Rothbury. Fans of such types of music can listen to the same albums for years while current music gets old in a week or two. In current hip hop songs the beat is almost the same through the entire song which makes people lose attention. Recent uses of technology in music rather than playing guitar or other instruments has helped create weaker songs.
